Hello @shawn Jones 

Your company (or the users/administrators of your Jira instance) get to define what those represent.

Some link types are provided by default by Jira out of the box, like Relates, Blocks, and Clones.

Others may be added by the Jira Admins or third party apps to help identify the relationship between items.
