Default work type not working (android)

Hey,

On android v16 Jira does not default to the space default work type (task in this case). It keeps defaulting to Epic.

Known defect?

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Based on my experience the default issue type applies only the first time you create an issue in a given project. After that Jira remembers the last type of issue you created in that project and defaults to that.

I just tested this again in software projects, Company-managed and Team-managed, and it still appears to be true.

Clarification:

I did not test on an Android device with the mobile app. I don't have an Android device on which to test.

I was testing he functionality on my laptop in the Chrome browser.

It should be what Trudy said (that app remembers what you selected previously), but I've just tested this on v2026.17.1 on Android, and it seems it's not that stable. 
*Assuming we're talking about this one

For example, switching spaces and work items + not closing and reopening the app, sometimes makes it refresh that work type dropdown. 🫤

I also did a quick scan of JAC for known issues, but nothing came up.

What you can do is navigate to your profile/avatar > Give feedback and submit issue you're experiencing through there.

I guess it's not a major issue, but I still see it can be a bit annoying if it happens occasionally. 

You could also try clearing the cache via Settings > Apps > Jira > Storage > Clear Cache to see if that will help 👀
