Default Value of Field with Table

Niklas Weiss

We are currently facing an Problem.
When creating a Ticket it's possible to add a Table to the description of the Ticket.
We want to document an order process which starts in Jira and ends in an other platform. Therefore we are creating an order Ticket, which should contain all products needed in a specific formation. Therefore we are using Tables. Now we want to standardise this table over the default value of description. But while Editing the Worktype it's not possible to add a Table to the content. How can we archive it?

Hi Niklas,

I hope this post finds you well and thanks for using Community!

Depending on the type of Space you are using this can be accomplished differently.  We have:

Are those resources inline with what you are looking to accomplish?  If not, if I have misunderstood what you are looking to do please let me know and I am happy to review further.

Hi Andy,
the first option would be the one which fits. We have a team managed project.
I've found that option before asking. We tested it and only can say it's not applicable to do so for getting a table which should be filled by customer or collegue.

When editing the description manual in the ticket creation window you can add a table but when editing the default value it's not possible to do so.

Hi Niklas,

Thanks for the follow up and sorry to hear that the workaround isn't applicable. That is the only out of the box option at this point however. We did have a feature request that asked for this ability, however due to prioritization and a lack of interest in the feature it was closed: JRACLOUD-78176 .

Is it a requirement that this is in the 'Description' field?  It might be possible to add a default value in a different multi-line text field.  I haven't tested it recently but it using a multi-line text custom field it might be possible to set a default value with a table it.  So if your option supports using a different field I could run through a quick test and confirm if that is possible.

Best,

Andy

Hi Andy,

for us it's not necessary that it's the 'Description' field.
Have tried other fields too, can't get it to work when using the create view.

Sad but then we need to do it with workarounds

Niklas

Niklas,

Using a different field that is set as the Paragraph type should work.  But you wouldn't set it through an Automation Rule. You would set this as the Default Value within the Field Configuration (Settings > Work Items > Fields > (... to the right of the field you want to set the value for) > Edit Context and default values).  Then using syntax like what is shown below you should be able to get a default to show up in the Create Screen:

||heading 1||heading 2||heading 3||
|cell A1|cell A2|cell A3|
|cell B1|cell B2|cell B3|

Is this what you attempted?  I just tested this out locally and this is working for me.

Best,

Andy
