Hi,
I created a custom field called 'Projection' and added a description successfully. However I noticed a typo in my description. I typed 'Project' instead of 'Projection'.
I have changed it and saved it successfully, but the update is not showing for the user when viewing the 'tool tip'.
I waited 24hrs in case it was not an immediate update. But it still shows the old value. See screen shots.
thanks
Hi @Paul Treadwell ,
I believe you'll have to change this description as well in the field configuration. Basically, navigate to Project settings > Work items > Fields > *Edit (pencil icon)
Next, find this field for which you'd like to change the description and edit it.
The change should be visible immediately for all users and in all places where this field is used, with the same field configuration.
Cheers,
Tobi
thanks - resolved by editing the value not in the 'custom field' but in the field configuration scheme.
thank you for your reply

Check the Field Configuration that is used in the field configuration scheme on the project.
Find the field in the field configuration and there use the pencil action to check the description on the field, used in the field configuration.

Thank you. That resolved it. The field configuration scheme needed updating.
Odd to me that it allows you to update the 'description' value on the Custom Field, but it doesn't appear to actually do anything.
I guess the first time you set the information (when setting up the custom field) it populates the info in the configuration scheme. Then after that you need to update the scheme.
I would never have thought of that, so thank you.

@Marc - Devoteam Thanks for contributing and for encouraging others to mark helpful answers!
Just a quick note: while it's perfectly fine to ask users to mark an answer as a solution if it helped, directly requesting Kudos — especially in a way that implies a reward for helpfulness — can be seen as inappropriate and might go against community guidelines. Kudos should be given genuinely and voluntarily, without any pressure or suggestion.
Also, a friendly reminder that copying answers (even from your previous posts) without proper context or credit might raise concerns as well, as the team is aiming to keep content original and helpful for everyone.
Community Managers are actively working on improving and expanding the Kudos program, so stay tuned — more structured ways to highlight valuable contributions are coming soon!
Cheers,
Tobi

Hi Paul,
If you have not used the field yet you can try delete the field and create a new one.

Could your browser cache just need to be emptied? That can be CTRL-F5 in some browsers.

thanks - it needed updating in the configuration scheme, not the custom field
