Custom Fields - Select List (Single choce) - One choice available for one task.

MnowCK September 18, 2018

Hello all big community.

I have a question to you, because i did not find answer i other post. So lets get start.

I have a project in JIra named "Test" in this project I have a custom field select list single choice named "Devices" and have four field: a, b, c, d. What I would like to do:

When some jira user create task and form select list will choice "a" field, I would like to that "a" field is unavailable to choice by other jira users  when they create task. So when User1 create task in my project and select "a" field, user can only select from select field, fields: a, c or d. But when user1 resolve task, all fields should be available. Is this possible?

You can't do that out of the box. You may be able to write a script. What would you do if all 4 options are taken and another task comes up?

Good point. So i would like to that, user should be not able to create task, if all options are taken.

I suspect you'll still be stuck with writing a script. It is worth a look in the marketplace for a plugin. I don't write scripts. I'm usually working with JIRA that will be turned over to someone else to manage and many of those folks don't have programming experience.

Thanks for advice. Maybe you know some plugins which support this?

No I don't. I've never needed functionality like this. I keep plugins to a minimum. I've been burned by using a plugin that support stopped for and had to remove the function when going to a new version of JIRA. I use the JIRA Suite Utilities (JSU) which used to be free, but now they charge, I believe you get a good set up functions from it. Remember, JIRA is a COTS product and if you mess with it too much you run the risk of not being able to upgrade if you want new functions they introduce.
