Creating multiple boards for a project

We have a project in which we want to create multiple boards. When I try to create a board, it looks like I can only create a Kanban board without creating a new project. Creating an Agile board seems to always prompt me to create a new project.

First thing please check if the project type is software or not.

If its a software project then once you click on create board button it will pop up a window with different board options like Agility, Scrum, and Kanban. Choose the appropriate one and then create it.

If you see the Agility create board option is disabled then this ability to create Agility Boards comes from the Global Permission 'Create independent projects', you need to check this permission and for this, you need Jira admin permission.

Create board is not greyed out, but when I click on it, I get the following, which only allows me to create a board for a new software project.
