Created tasks via 'create issue in epic' in an epic. None of the tasks are showing in epic.

Kieran Campbell November 27, 2019

I'm trying to create a board with epics as swimlanes for tasks but cannot seem to link tasks to epics.  I've created an epic, have used 'create issue in epic' to create a number of tasks.  None of these tasks are showing under 'Issues in this epic'.

Hi @Kieran Campbell , welcome to the Community!

Are the issues perhaps showing in the Backlog? Issues will only show under the swimlanes after they have been moved out of the backlog and into the active sprint or kanban board.

If they are not in the backlog then I suspect your board's filter is excluding the issues. Can you check that as well?

Hi Jack.  Thanks for your answer, actually the first issue was that epic links had not been enabled by my admin for my project.  This is now done and all is good.

Hi @Kieran Campbell , thank you for your help. That field did the trick indeed!!! New stories in an epic are now visible. Previously created stories (in the epic) are still not linked to the epic. I'll have to delete those and raise them again.

Thanks again.

Hi John, sure.  No problems with you piggy-backing on this issue.

I was doing the same, creating tasks within the Epic but this wasn't working.  My issue was resolved simply as the Link to Epic field wasn't visible in my project, apparently this is project specific config, once this was enabled I could use it to update and edit task / epic links and everything worked as expected.

Required field is 'EPIC LINK'.

Hi there, can I piggy bag on this issue as I'm facing, more or less, the same issue. I'm raising issues under an EPIC in a newly created project but they don't appear under the epic (in the epic screen)

Screenshot 2020-01-14 at 17.30.03.pngI've added a number of tasks via the "what needs to be done?" but none appear below. In other projects this is working as expected.

The tasks are visible in the backlog so that's not a problem for me.
