Create issue in epic opens pop up to create new epic, doesn't link

Daniel Johnson January 24, 2023

On a Kanban board with a backlog and epics pane when you expand an epic it gives you an option to "Create issue in epic." I would imagine the expected behavior to be to open a pop up that creates either a new story, task, or bug that is linked to that epic. However, when I click the "Create issue in epic" link the issue type selected is Epic. When I change it to anything else the Epic Link dropdown doesn't have an epic chosen. So, what's the point of the "Create issue in epic" link if I still have to fill in which epic the new issue is linked to?

Hello @Daniel Johnson

I observe the same behavior. However, when I go through with creating the issue (in the same project as the Epic) and I leave the Epic Link field blank, the issue is still actually created as a child of the specified Epic. This was in a Company Managed Software project.

I have done a quick look for an issue in Atlassian's backlog for this, but have not yet found one.

Thanks for that tip @Trudy Claspill ! Leaving the Epic Link field blank worked for me too.
