Copying JIRA issue number into description field - how do I make sure status is also displayed

Deleted user May 26, 2019

I receive a Jira story with links in the "Description" field to the issues I have to document. Jira automatically converts the issue numbers into links. (Most of the time). However, sometimes the link automatically shows the issue status field, which is very helpful. How do I make sure that copying a Jira issue number into a description pane always comes with the Status?

Here are examples with and without the status.

I'm answering my own question! Copying the url from the address bar resolves into the issue name and status field. If I just copy the number, the number simply turns into a link to the topic.

I’m unclear where you are seeing these and the context matters. However, based on the images, it appears to be inserted Jira macros. If you list a single Jira issue within a comment or text field within another Jira Issue the you will receive the format shown in image 1. The second appear to be from inserting a jira list but this is where more context loud help.

Hi Jack, they are both screenshots from the "description" panel of a Next Gen issue. Both were created by the same team member. I spoke to this team member, who told me she simply copies the Jira number from the relevant issue and pastes it into the description.

Sometimes, the link doesn't transfer, and I re-paste it myself. When I do this, very often I get a list format and the number 1. appears before the linked issue number. So this supports your suspicion that the second format is related to Jira list.

I will try pasting one Jira issue at a time...

So far, I cannot guarantee the formatting I get. Pasting one at a time didn't help.
