Copy as text in code snippet fails when any text on page is selected.

The copy as text button is expected to copy the entire contents of a code snippet box. However, I find that if ANY text is selected on the page, the copy will fail. Pasting will show whatever text was previously in the clipboard;

Hi @Russell Wagner I've reproduced this on my machine using Windows 11 & Edge.  However, I think the issue is not that the copy fails, but that the button isn't clickable.

Take a look at JRACLOUD-95244 as I think this is your issue.  Feel free to vote for and watch it for updates.  I voted for it. Feel free to add a comment as well.

Thanks for this. The ticket you pointed to is not entirely. It claims the copy fails if any portion of the snippet text is selected. but in fact the issue is that any text selected on the entire page will cause this issue.

I don't seem to have a way to log in and vote on or correct that ticket. But we'll see what happens.

Signed out, the tracker shows you the words but not the control. "Vote for this issue" is rendered as plain text with no link behind it, and its tooltip says "You have to be logged in to vote for an issue." Watching is the same. The toolbar carries a Log In button with os_destination=/browse/JRACLOUD-95244, so signing in from there returns you to the ticket.

The account is one you already have. That login link redirects to id.atlassian.com, the same Atlassian identity behind your own site, so the public tracker needs no separate registration.

On the scope you are right, and the ticket's own text is what shows it. Its steps to reproduce read "select part of the content of the code block", and the summary is scoped the same way. A selection anywhere on the page is a wider trigger and a different repro, so I would put that in a comment with your exact steps rather than try to get the description reworded. The description belongs to whoever filed it, and the comment is what a triager reads.

That correction is also aimed at the right thing. Hover its status and the tracker explains the ranking: "A fix for this issue is required, but planned for farther in the future. This is because it’s not as severe or pervasive as other issues." Pervasiveness is the stated criterion, and your report widens it from one selection inside a code block to any selection on the page, so it argues against the reason the ticket is parked where it is.

JRACLOUD-95244 is also the only open ticket with Copy as text in its summary, so there is no better one to pile onto, and it currently stands at a single vote.
