Copy Activity to new ticket throws unknown field error

Will do my best here, still new with Jira...

Ticket comes in to Support channel, then triaged to sub-department board. 

Triage automation creates ticket in sub backlog then copies Summary, Description, Attachments, Priority, and Activity (only way I can see to get comments).

Everything seems to be working except comments, and in the Audit Log i see:

Create issue
Unknown fields set during create, they may be unavailable for the project/type. Check your custom field configuration. Fields ignored -
Activity (customfield_11901)

I looked in the custom fields, but I dont see Activity or 11901 anywhere. 
Is there an easier way to just copy comments?

Hi @[deleted] and welcome to the Community!

The error you get is not about comments, but about the Activity field. You listed this field in the list of fields that you are trying to copy to the sub backlog.

I hope the project you are copying to is a company managed project. If so, check the configuration of the screens in that project in Project settings > issues > screens. You should find the screen there that is used for the issue type you are trying to create. Make sure to add the Activity custom field to that screen. That should fix the error.

Copying comments is not an easy topic. Comments are a list, so you should iterate over them using smart values. There is support documentation available to help you do this properly, depending on the scenario you have in mind.

Thank you for this insight. 

If I select "Copy Activity from Current Issue" shouldn't that handle the comments as well, since they are part of the activity? Or should we attempt this a different way?
