Convert multi line text custom field to use rich text editor in JIRA cloud

I need to convert some multi-line text custom fields to render a rich text editor. I can find instructions for this in JIRA by changing the custom field renderer but this option doesn't appear to be available in JIRA cloud.

Is this possible or do I have to create a new field and then try and migrate all data?

This needs to be done in the Field Configuration used in the Field Configuration Scheme on the project.
