I am using different issue types like Initiative. However, when I change the color, it just flips back to and doesn't retain the settings. I want to color code my roadmap, and this issue is driving me mad. Are there other ways to change the color, or is there a setting I'm missing?
For a couple I have managed to change the color somehow.
Like this one is yellow
When I look at the child issues, the parent is correct (in yellow)
But on my kanban board it shows in purple which seems to be the default.
What am I missing?
I am trying to create hierarchies with the color coding, so my entire plan is out of the window where few just don't change.
(PS: this is a problem I am facing since weeks, so I have tried to turn it off and on again ...)
I had the same issue as described in this topic. However, after adding the "Issue Color"-field to the screen of the initiative, it was solved. As a Jira-admin you can add this field from Settings => Issues => Screens =>> here pick the relevant screen linked to your initiatives. Hope this works for you too!
Worth mentioning: after adding the Issue color field to the screen, the "Issue Color" field itself was not displayed in the tickets; even though it's also in the list of fields within the layout. However, in my case this was enough though to "unlock" the ability to change the color.
My hero! This worked!
Had the same issue in a new board again and after adding the field it now works just as it should!

"Same" problem.
Our support added the "issue color" field to the "initiative screen". It shows up when creating a new issue - ok, fine. But afterwards the field is missing in the ticket details although I can see the field in the configuration. So I cannot change the color of iniatives.
My mistake or is this feature (changing the color of initiatives) missing?

Hi @Michael_ Janine Between my original response and now, a lot of UI-areas in Jira received a complete overhaul. As a consequence, for ticket-types unequal to Epic, the color does not appear to be exposed any more in an accessible box. Nevertheless, the color should still be changeable:
1) When a ticket is created - as you stated - the Issue color field is there. You should be able to change it right there to the color of your choosing:
2) The color can also be changed after the fact via the "edit fields"-option in a list view:
a- Perform a query in Jira for those items of which you want to change color.
b- Select the checkbox to the left of that Initiative you want to update.
c- Select "Edit Fields" from the pop-up on the bottom of the screen.
d- In the drawer that appears on the right-hand-side add "Issue Color".
e- Enable the checkbox for "Issue Color"
f- Click on the box next to "Keep as is".
g- Change it to your desired color.
h- Press "Next" and "Confirm" to lock in the changes.
Done!
Note: you need to manually refresh the list to see changes in the list.

Think I found a (somewhat weird) workaround.
Allegedly Issue color can be bulk changed. However the field is non editable in the bulk change screen - this seems to be a known issue.
When I select the option it seems to clear out / reset that field.
After that my color was purple but at least it let me change it now.
Maybe this helps someone else regaining their sanity :)
It didn't change the color on the kanban board. Appreciate any hints how that could be achieved. Will hide it for now.

Hello @Anja Konhauser
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
Have you tried the same in another browser application, in a private browser window, or after clearing your browser cache?
Do other users experience the same problem in the same project?

Thank you, yes, I've tried different browse, incognito window and asked my team. 3 team members tried and had the exact same issue (we couldn't believe it ourselves, as it's so bizzare)

And I would encourage all of you to consider opening a support request directly with Atlassian to have the issue investigated further.
