When I clone a Story I have an option of including child sub-tasks. However, when I clone an Epic there is no option available to clone its child tasks. There is no mention of restrictions to cloning issues in the User Documentation for Jira software server 7.0. One of my users insists that they used to clone Epics and its child stories and sub-tasks were cloned as well. It would be great to hear comments from the community, thank you Brian
Hello Brian,
How are you?
Unfortunately, JIRA does not give you the option to include the "Child" Stories when cloning Epics, however, we have already opened a feature request to implement this functionality:
- When cloning an Epic, add the option to clone the linked Stories as well
Feel free to vote and watch the suggestion to increase its priority and also receive notifications about any updates.
Additionally, the mentioned suggestion have some workarounds provided by other users needing the same functionality. Here are some of them:
1 - Use the Bulk Clone Basic for JIRA plugin
2 - Export the Epic with the linked stories to a CSV file, edit the issue key and re-import it
3 - Implement a Scriptrunner code:
Let me know if any of the options above is helpful.
In advance, have a great weekend! :)
Hi Petterson: Thank you for your detailed response, I think exporting the epic to CSV and then re-importing is going to work in my current situation. Again, thanks for the great reply, and you have a great weekend as well !

Hi Brian,
Did you try this out? what happens if the issue key encounters a duplicate?
THanks
