Clicking on a parent story opens a subtask

Rachael LeCroy August 5, 2020

After closing an issue window which had a subtask open, I can't open the parent issue when selecting it again. The window opens the subtask I was just working on. This usually happens twice opening and closing it until it reverts to opening straight to the parent.

Is there a way to make it always open directly to the parent issue?

Thank you!

Hi @Rachael LeCroy

Thanks for the detailed run through!

I tested this out:

  1. Went to a Story on Classic Board
  2. Opened it in the pop-up view
  3. Selected the Sub-task
  4. Closed the pop-up / clicked outside the pop-up
  5. Reopened the Story without refreshing the page

I found that it did go to the Sub-task for ~3 seconds, then auto-reverted to the Story. Not all instances might run the same speed all the time as it depends on network connection, size of instance, apps, etc - if you haven't tried, could you give it up to ~20-30 seconds and see if it does refresh like this?

Hi,

Thank you for your assistance, but is there any setting I can change to accomplish this in lieu of just waiting? Closing and reopening the box twice (which is what we've had to do) is faster than waiting 20 sec for the window to revert to the parent.

Hi @Rachael LeCroy

The aim of waiting longer was to see if it reverts to the Story for you like it does with me. I appreciate waiting that long each time wouldn't be ideal.

I chose ~20-30 seconds as it shouldn't take that long, so it's more along the lines of a "maximum time" :)

Hi Steve,

The problem seems to have solved itself. I'm not sure what was wrong before. I appreciate your time.

Hi @Rachael LeCroy

Can you verify how you're opening the issue? Are you opening it from a board? Or the search bar?

And is this a Next-Gen or a Classic project?

If you could provide a screenshot to show instructions on how you're doing this, that would be great!

Hello!

Yes, I am opening it from the board and it is a classic project. I have attached some screenshots (personal info redacted).

Here is the board with the issue I selected:

Here is the parent issue I want to open when I click it:

Here is the subtask that I opened from the parent:

Currently, when I close out of the subtask and click the issue from the original board, it opens back to the subtask I was just working on. I then have to close out of the window again and click the issue from the board a second time to make it open to the parent issue.

I want to be able to click on the parent issue from the original board and always open straight to the parent issue. Is there a setting I can change to make it do this?

Thanks for your help!
