Clearing the time spent in a status

On the project I am working on we have a QA team that has a SLA back to the other teams to get all cards through QA in less than 24 hours. Upon adding a card color filter I found that if a card for example had been in QA for 20 hours and then got moved to Reopened...then proceeds back through the columns and ends up back in QA after that card has sat in QA for 4 hours the filter will turn on and make the card red. What I have found out is that JIRA collects the cumulitive amount of time spent in a status and not each instance in a status. I am trying to make it so that everytime a card enters or reenter the QA column it resets the amount of time but have not had luck. I have tried Post Functions and got no where. Any suggestions?

I don't think this is possible - the time spent is calculated from the issue history from what I can make out.
