Clearing the Done Column has disappeared---again

I used to be able to hover over the Done column, get 3 dots to appear, and then Clear the column. That functionality is gone. Will it be coming back?

Hi @colleen_brondou, it's gone deliberately, and Atlassian commented on whether it comes back in an update today. This is the board rollout for team-managed Software spaces, Kanban side of it, so it only applies if that's the space type you're in. Company-managed boards aren't part of it.

The timed clearing moved into View settings. The manual clear on the Done column menu didn't move, it was dropped. Atlassian's wording in today's update is that they are still evaluating the possibility of bringing back manually clearing done items, however not in its current state. That same update added a 1 day option alongside 7, 14, 30, 60 and Never, so a day is the tightest window on offer for now.

We're seeing the same behavior. It seems like this feature has been moved or changed rather than removed completely. Has anyone heard from Atlassian about whether this is an intentional UI update or a temporary issue? If it's intentional, some release notes or guidance would be really helpful.

I was wrong to walk that back, so back it goes. The line I quoted first is in the article itself, under Update as of 30 Jul: we are still evaluating the possibility of bringing back manually clearing done items however not in its current state. When I went to check it I re-read only Peter Oh's comment, where the same thing is worded differently, and took that for the update. My mistake, not his.

The Done column part of my last post stands. That one does come from the comment, and hiding the column outright is supported on the new board.

Going back to the manual clear, I paraphrased Peter Oh's update more optimistically than it actually reads. His words are that removing it was a conscious decision, that the feature in its current state was confusing for many customers, and that they may explore bringing it back in future. A maybe, some day. So don't plan around waiting it out.

The same comment carries an alternative I skipped. If none of the timed options suit you, hide the Done column on the board outright. The new board already supports that, and it gets Done off your screen without the manual clear ever coming back.
