Choosing monetization approach for new plugin

Hello !
Spent a lot of efforts on developing simple plugin for Jira and decided to list it as payed via Atlassian.
What is suggested, better way of releasing new Jira Server plugins in terms of monetization?
My idea is to list it's alpha version as free first to see demand and have better coverage for testing. Polish it in case of any issues and make it payed via Atlassian.
Does it make sense, or it is better to releae as payed straight a way?
Please share your vision and experience.
