Changing the status of an issue from the issue itself

Whenever I load an issue, I can briefly see the issue's status on the top right corner. It shows up as a dropdown. But as soon as the issue is done loading that dropdown disappears. 

I have looked at "Issue Layout" under "Project Settings". Here is what I see:

There are hidden fields, "Status" shows up grayed out, and I can't move.

What do I need to do so I can change the status of an issue from the issue itself?

that is odd behavior that I have never observed. I wonder if maybe you don't have permissions to change the status. have you tried another browser? is there anyone else that could try this?

I believe I have the necessary permissions, because I can change status via kanban board. This also happens to everyone on my team, and they use different browsers and OS (Win, Mac, Linux).

That is quite strange. I would contact Atlassian Support.
