Category field is duplicated in list view in my team managed work management project

Hannah Huhman

I've created a work management project from the Go To Market template. When I go to list view, I see the Category field twice. When I fill one out, the other autofills with the same category (meaning I can't use two different categories). When I try to turn one of them off, they both turn off. I either only need one category field, or the option to use two different categories. Please help!jiragotomarket2.pngjiragotomarket1.png

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

I think you may have added a field called "Category" which is correctly being displayed here, but you didn't realise that Jira already has a field called "Category" built into it, which is also being displayed here.

It's not a surprise if you didn't see the system "Category" field - it's not an enterable one you can put on screen, it's only used in search and reporting, and the values are derived, not entered.  It actually means "Project Category" (and I wish it were called that)

It's  also quite annoying that Jira lets us create fields with the same name (many years ago it did not, I was disappointed when it started to allow it).

Oops, I meant to reply to you but I submitted my own answer. How do I delete the field I accidentally created?

Thanks @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- ! That makes sense. How do I delete the one I created?

Go to admin -> Issues -> custom fields and find it in the list of fields.  I would not delete it myself, just rename it, so you can identify it and carry on using it.
