Cannot create Subtasks for my Story issues in Next-Gen Project

The option to create a "Subtask" has disappeared from all the issues (Story, Bug, Task).

"Subtask" was automatically configured as an issue type when I created the board and it still exists when I check the project settings > issue types.

I can also still "Group By Subtasks" on my Next-Gen board.

What am I missing? How do I create and see subtasks? And I'm not referring to "Child Issues".

May I ask why add a child issue is not what you’re referring to? If you do add a child issue to a task is it not then a sub task? Sorry, I’m just a little confused.

My apologies, I thought a child issue was different from a subtask. I was very confused because on Friday the language on the ticket was "Sub-task"

No worries at all things have certainly changed within the Jira UI so it can be a challenge to keep current.
