Cannot create Roadmaps in Jira Cloud Version

Sivaraju_Vijay July 30, 2025

I see "Roadmaps" on the left side panel but do not have an option to create a new Roadmap. I can see the existing Roadmaps created by others?

Hi @Sivaraju_Vijay,

You're right to expect some clarity here — the distinction between "Roadmaps" and "Plans" in Jira Cloud can be confusing, especially with different project types and permission setups.

Here’s a quick overview:

1. "Roadmaps" in the sidebar usually refers to the basic roadmap feature available in company-managed Jira Software projects. It’s mostly used for visualizing epics across a timeline.

2. "Plans" (Advanced Roadmaps) is part of the Jira Premium plan and appears under the "Plans" tab. That’s where you typically get the "+" button to create a new roadmap (or plan).

If you're seeing the "Roadmaps" section but can't create one, it's worth checking:

  • Whether you're in a team-managed project (which has different features)

  • Your permission level within that project

  • Whether this is a feature from a third-party app

It would be helpful if you could:

  • Confirm the type of project you're using

  • Let us know what appears when you click the "..." next to Roadmaps

  • Share the partial URL (after your domain) when opening the Roadmaps section

We’ve supported similar configurations and would be happy to help further if you can provide a few more details

@Vitalii Rybka

The term "Roadmaps" was replaced by "Timeline" quite a while ago. And it was available in both Company Managed and Team Managed Software projects.

Additionally access to that functionality for both CM and TM Software projects now through the tabs across the top, not in the navigation panel on the side.

As per the image @Sivaraju_Vijay provided in their reply to me, the Roadmaps option they are seeing is separate from working with any specific type of project.

Agree. We will need to wait for the screenshots from @Sivaraju_Vijay  to understand what happens after clicking on 'Roadmaps'.

Also, @Sivaraju_Vijay do you have admin access to navigate to Manage Apps?
Jira settings -> Apps

If so, could you check if there's any app installed with the name Roadmaps or one that shows a similar icon?

Hello @Sivaraju_Vijay

Welcome to the Atlassian Community.

Can you provide a screen image showing us where you are seeing "Roadmaps"? I don't see an option with that label in Jira Cloud.

Thank you for sharing that.

I can confirm that there is no option for "Roadmaps" in my personal Jira instance (Free plan, Jira, JSM, and JPD). I also checked an instance on the Premium plan and did not find it there either.

"Plans" is the native feature for roadmaps/timelines. I wonder if the Roadmaps option you see is provided by a third party app?

What options do you see if you click on the "..." button to the right of "Roadmaps"?

What URL do you get when you click on the View All Roadmaps option? Don't include your base URL when you share that. I'm asking for that URL to see if it gives me a clue about the source of the Roadmaps feature you are seeing.

Hi @Sivaraju_Vijay

On the 'Plans' tab, do you see a '+' option?

If yes, please click on it to create a new Advanced Roadmaps plan.

Hope this helps!

But I was expecting that on the "Roadmaps" tab.
