Cannot create Jira Service Desk Service Portal Accounts with specific e-mail addresses

We have a customer for our service desk who uses the e-mail suffix (domain name) msg.group. I cannot assign users with this domain name for out Jira Service Desk service portal.

Dots in an email name should not be a blocker. Does the user have any permissions on a Jira Service Desk project? I.e. Service Desk Customer?
