Hello,
I'm trying to assign https://jira-de.asml.com/browse/DEWTIQR-673 to the person Of which I will not share the name. His account does exist but I cannot assign the issue to him. I can add any other Jira user within my company but not my colluege. What is going on?

Hello @jasper.hoevenaars

Welcome to the community. Couple of questions to help triage the issue.

  1. Does the user have access to the project?
  2. Does the user have the assignable user permission on the project?
  3. Can the user view the issue?
  4. Can you try the permission helper tool in Jira, to check why they cant be assigned the issue

Within Jira but outside of the project issue hit period "." on your keyboard to open the Admin shortcut menu and search for permissions helper.

Alternatively, you can click the gear icon in the upper left corner, select system under the Jira Settings section. Scroll down and on the left hand side is the permission helper.

  • Enter the user's name
  • Select a issues from the project or the issue you want to assign to them
  • Change permission to Assignable user
  • Run the permission checker

Some of these questions and actions may not be applicable as I am unsure which platform (server or cloud) you are on and which Jira product you are using (JSM, JSW, JWM)

Hope this helps,
Danny

Hi Danny,

Thanks for helping me. Yes the person does have access to the project, although I doubt that matters, since I can assign random people within my company to that task. The problem is the user doesn't even show up in the search bar no matter whether I put in his name, email or username.

Thanks for the help and I'll try out the Jira permission checker!

Danny

The issue is solved! The user was assigned to the project, but not with the right role. In our case the role should have been Team Member i.s.o. Developer.
