Cannot access project icon images in forge app

Hello,

I'm working on a forge custom ui app where I display a list of the projects on my instance with their project icon. The projects with a default Atlassian icon are shown, but the projects with an external image don't show the image. 

The avatarUrl looks the same but when trying to access them via a browser, the atlassian icon is displayed, but the external image gives an error.

I put screenshots in the comments. Tried the api call asUser and asApp but didn't work. 

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

Same issue we have on our side, looks like replacing by regex is bad way here. Looking for some good ones.
