Can you transition a parent based on an action of the subtask

I would like to transition the parent to Inprogress when the subtask is transitioned to inprogress. or copy text from the subtask field to the parent field is it possible to do it?

I am not sure what the automation plugin can do, but Update on Transition for JIRA can do both of your questions. See Transition issues for the first one and Update issues with Substitution variables for the second.
