I'm new to Jira and inherited a detailed Jira Board that only shows tasks and sub-tasks. The board was not originally set up with epics.
I'm trying to use epics to group these tasks and simplify the Board. I've created epics and linked the tasks as child tasks to the epic. Is there a way to now hide the child tasks from the Board but still have them accessible through the epics?
Yes, any board in Jira is founded on a 'filter'. If you open the Board Configuration (the three dots in the top right > Configure board), you should be able to see the filter that is currently being used.
It might be something like "project = X and type in (Task, Sub-task)". You could edit this to be 'project = X and type = Epic' to only show Epics on your Board.
Keep in mind though, that Epics work a bit differently from most other issue types in Jira. Epics only show as cards if you are using a Kanban board. If your current board is a Scrum Board, you might have to create a new board using that new filter I suggested :)
Thanks Hans
