Can we have both Jira Service Desk and Jira Software?

Tee Khema March 9, 2020

We currently have a Jira Software instance and just had a Jira Service desk created for us. Is there a way we can keep both and integrate them with each other? If so, how would we do this?

Hi Tee,

You'd install Jira Service Desk, just like you would any other marketplace app. Follow the instructions here:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/install-jira-service-desk-in-existing-jira-server-instance-849158594.html

Jira Software and Jira Service Desk work great when they're on the same instance!

We already have Jira service desk installed and currently have a Jira Software instance. We would like if possible to integrate the two together. Both are already installed we are just not clear on how to link the both of them. Is this possible if they are both installed already?

Hi Tee,

Yes it's possible. Are they both a single server instance, or are they both in the cloud, on the same instance/URL?

No need to do anything if they're on the same instance/URL.

If they're on different instances, then there's a little set up required with application links - https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/using-applinks-to-link-to-other-applications-938846918.html.

Here's an example of what you might do with integrated Jira Service Desk and Jira Software - https://confluence.atlassian.com/servicedeskcloud/blog/2017/12/automatically-create-linked-issues-from-new-requests

Hi Tee, if they're on the same instance, then they are already integrated :)

If you're not seeing any links, it may be due to permissions. Users will need browse permissions on both projects, and users trying to create issues in the service desk project will need to be agents.

Let us know if that helps

generally it is preferred to install JSD on your current JSW instance but not required. If you have not really begun using the new JSD instance then I recommend simply adding JSD to your current JSW. You can use the same license key.

We have not started using it still setting it up. How can we at the JSD to our current JSW? We are still very new at all of this so we are learning it as well.

Could you provide us some instructions or step-by-step on how we can make this happen?

Thanks for the quick reply.
