Given the assumption you use two custom fields (or are willing to do so) you can do maths on those two fields using Apps from Marketplace.

In an earlier requirement we calculated, for example, a Duration (how long is the issue in a specific status of the workflow) by a simple calculation on two fields.
In a different requirement there was the need to calculate the duration multiplied by customers affected by the issue - there are several Apps enabling you to do mathematics on two fields or even more.

Could you explain your question in detail?

Are you using any plugin for the planned and actual data or they are just fields?

I wanted to log the work with the deadline date. Later i wanted to find out difference between how many days has been  actually taken to complete the project
