We run JIRA and Confluence on a Windows-Server and there are several (big) files located at C:\Program Files\Atlassian\Application Data which are named like YYYY-MM-DD-Confluence-VERSION-back.zip (both for JIRA and Confluence).

I guess they were created before/while updating the two products to newer versions.

Can I safely remove those files without crashing JIRA or Confluence?

Yes, they're exports - once the process that creates them has completed, they are not used by the server again, and can be deleted.
