Can the Same Custom Field Have Different Display Names in Different Projects?

Hi everyone,

I was hoping someone could help clarify if the following setup is possible in Jira:

I’d like to reuse an existing custom field across multiple projects, and I’ve already created a new context for it.

My goal is to have the same custom field display different names depending on the project. For example:

• In Project A, the field should appear as ABC
• In Project B, the same field should appear as XYZ

Both projects would be using the same custom field, but with different contexts. Is there any way to achieve this in Jira? My main intention is to avoid creating duplicate custom fields and instead reuse the existing one.

Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The short answer is no, you cannot have different names in different projects for the same field.
