Out of the blue, no users are able to log into Confluence.  They are able to access the web site and use it but not log in.

Users can log into Jira.

The error message is

  • Sorry, an error occurred trying to log you in. Please try again.

We have tried to stop and start the Confluence server.

We have rebooted the server several times.

How can we resolve this issue?

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

This is a typical symptom of Confluence not being able to talk to a remote user directory.  You'll need to read the application log to see what the problem is.  It may tell you it can't connect during start up, but it will tell you more someone tries to log in.  I usually use a "tail -f" on the log and then try to log in.
