When I click the link "Upload an application"  in "Versions & licenses" window, I get the following message:

"Could not install the file atlassian-servicedesk-3.16.1-x64.exe. Check that the file is valid."

I have tried installing Service Desk, Confluence, and Bitbucket. All three do the same.

- Windows 10
- Server Version 7.13.1
- No internet connection

-------

So, after much digging, I learned a couple items:

1) The download link presented under each License Key is for the stand-alone server .exe.

2) In order to run additional applications together with Jira, on a single server instance, an .OBR file is needed to "Upload an application"  in "Versions & licenses" window.

So, would someone 1) confirm/correct my current understanding, and 2) point me in the right direction to install (aka "Upload an application"  in "Versions & licenses" window) Confluence and Bitbucket?

Thank you,

Stephen

Hey Stephen,

Welcome to the Community, and thanks for reaching out! We do have mechanisms to help in cases where your server doesn't have internet access, which I'll explain more in a second after answering your immediate questions.

  1. You are correct, the links from the Downloads section for our software (example: https://atlassian.com/software/jira/download ) will give you .exe files for Windows
  2. The OBR files you can install on the versions and licenses page are essentially limited to Jira Service Desk. Other applications such as Confluence and Bitbucket are standalone applications that you'd need to install with the .exe files you downloaded.

Now - a bit more about offline servers. You've already grabbed the .exe files you'd need to use for additional applications like Bitbucket and Confluence. Let's talk about the .obr files:

  • Jira Service Desk can be thought of as an add-on to your existing Jira Core / Jira Software install. The OBR file you'll need to install it from the Versions and Licensing page can be downloaded here:
    https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1213632/jira-service-desk/version-history
The versions of Service Desk compatible with particular Software versions are listed on the page. Since you have Jira Software 7.13.1, you'll need to download Jira Service Desk 3.16.1 from the page.
  • Other addons from the Atlassian Marketplace can be downloaded the same way (to get to this versions page from a marketplace listing, click the Versions tab on a marketplace listing page and then click the "See all ___ versions" link on the right side of the screen in the Resources section). In the Jira GUI, you can navigate to the Manage apps page and click the Upload app button to upload the .obr file you got for the marketplace app. More reading for this is available in our documentation.

I hope that helps get you started on your internet-less Jira server, and happy to help if you have any more questions!

Cheers,
Daniel

Daniel,

Perfect. That makes sense now.

I was able to do the following:

1) Install Jira.exe
2) Install Confluence.exe and "tether" it to my Jira instance
3) Install Bitbucket.exe (installed Git dependency before)*
4) Install Portfolio & Service Desk OBRs (aka "Upload an application")
5) Install Sourcetree.exe and connect to Bitbucket instance.*

Also, I want to add, just in case another user should wonder. We decided to use this installation configuration because of our team size. We are a small development team and didn't need multiple servers for each application. Otherwise, installing separate server instances would make sense and is may be considered the most common configuration.

I did a bit of reading yesterday and found cases where we might want to expand our "Jira Universe." The first will likely be a separate server for Bitbucket. We'll monitor the performance over the coming weeks and months and adjust accordingly.

**UPDATE**

I was able to complete #3 and #5 above without any hangups. Afterwards, I performed a complete uninstall and reinstall from start to finish without incident.

Thank you Daniel.
