Can issues be filtered by users associated to the same Atlassian Team?

Once an Atlassian team is created, is it possible with JQL to create a filter that will return all issues where the assignee is a member of that particular team? For example, business users are in one team, IT users are in another team, external users are in another team, and so on. I need a filter to return all issues assigned to users in the IT team. Is this possible?

How are you ientifying that a person is in a particular team?

They will be put into a "team" based on the division they are in within our organization. I'm not using anything associated to the user in Jira to differentiate what team they should be in.

The request I'm trying to fulfill is to "group" users based on where they belong in our organization; i.e. business, IT, vendor, etc. and then have the ability to filter by that "group". I found the Teams option and also thought about creating a user group within Admin.
