I am trying to create a screen scheme for Epics only and a different one for Stories/Tasks, is this possible?

Hi @Tim Lankford

Yes you can!

  • Create your screens (up to three to associate with the create/edit/view screen)
  • Create a screen scheme for your epic and associate the above mentioned screen with it
  • Go to your issue type screen and associate this screen scheme with the Epic issue type

@Alex Koxaras -Relational- Thanks for the help, I am new to being a Jira admin.  The problem I am having is I already have a bunch of screen schemes for multiple projects.  I am trying to remove Epics from one, create a new one for Epics.

I followed your steps for my Sandbox project but get stuck on step 3.

Thanks again for the help!

Tim

@Alex Koxaras -Relational-

I got stuck again and was wondering you could advise.

I have multiple projects each with their own screen schemes created which group Epics, Stories, and Tasks together.  I am trying to break the Epic away because I need to display more fields on the Epic.

I tried the steps but now I feel I messed things up.

It seems like the Epic Scheme is now attached to the Story too and I am not sure how to change this.

Any advise would be appreciated!

Hi @Tim Lankford!

Again apologies for late reply :)

In order to understand what's going on on your project you could go to:

cog wheel > issues > issue type screen scheme (ITSS)

and locate your project's scheme. From the screen below you will see the screen schemes that each issue type is using.

issuetypescreenscheme.pngE.g. from the above picture you see that Epic is using a different screen scheme from that of Bug, whereas all other issue types (not visibile/mapped on that ITSS) are using another screen scheme.

Clicking in any screen scheme from that picture you will see the issue screens used for each issue operation (create, edit, view). E.g. for the epic I have used 3 different screens for these three operations, because I want to have different fields on each issue operation:

EpicScreenScheme.png

However, on the Bug I'm using only one screen for all three operations:

BugScreencheme.png

Going into my project I can see the above view if I go to project settings > screens:

ProjectsScreens.png

So from the above picture I can undestand that Epic and Bug use a different screen scheme, independent from each other, whereas all other issue types (DNC, Task, Value Add and Subtask) use the a common (but different) screen scheme.

Going back to your project I would assume that Epic is using a different screen scheme than all other issue types. However these screen schemes have the same operations screens. If you want them to be independent then:

  • you have to create/copy screens
  • go to e.g. epic screen scheme and associate an issue operation with a screen
  • do the above step for another screen scheme

Let me know if the above helps!
