Can a next gen subtask have a task as a parent

janet_r

I'd like to set my subtasks up as children of tasks in my project and I cannot figure out how to set up the relationship.  I'm able to add a parent to the subtask, but I seem to only have the option for the parent to be an Epic.

Can I make subtasks be children of tasks?  If so, how?

Hi Janet, yes this can be done and should be pretty straight forward but lets take a look. If you open one of your Tasks there should be a button to "add child issue" as below.

and if you click on a child you should see breadcrumbs to the parent as below...

This is exactly what I'm looking for.  Unfortunately, my task does not have all those options.  I see only Attach and Link issue.Screen Shot 2020-06-23 at 1.41.33 PM.png

Hmmm, have you added the sub-task type to the project under project settings > issue types?

Ah, yes, that was why I wasn't seeing the ability to create child tasks.  Thank you.

Unfortunately, I still can't do what I need to because the child tasks must be sub-tasks, and it's not possible to set up the custom types (which I need) as sub-tasks.
