Can a Jira Plan view only user comment on a project or initiative ?

sharmashe August 8, 2025

Trying to give stakeholders a way to communicate with team in a plan. They should only be able to view and/or add a comment regarding their request. Is this currently available within Jira Plans?

Hi @sharmashe,

Not from a plan anyway. those permissions are not linked to a plan. The plan permissions govern the way users can perform actions specific to the planning features, such as:

  • creating new work items in the plan (before committing them to Jira)
  • adjusting the timeline
  • editing work items by filling out fields

Underneath, the actual work items are still managed in Jira projects. What you can do with work items is very much determined by the permissions of those projects. Being able to add comments to a work item is one of these project based permissions. If you want to control that, it's in the project permissions you would need to manage this.

Hope this helps!
