Can a Component be archived?

You can archive a Fix Version which keeps it around as a historical entity, but removes it from the drop down that users see when editing a case. I would like to do the same thing for a Component. I have a Component dedicated to a deprecated application. I don't want to modify the cases in the Component to remove the Component (which deleting the Component would require me to do), because that is the Component they belong in. But since development on that Component is dead, I don't want any new cases created in it, and having it in the drop down list at all is just clutter.

There is a feature request: Archive project components, you can watch it to be updated and vote for it to show interest.

Some workarounds:

• How Could we disable/archive a Component in Jira ?
• Create a custom field named something like "Inactive components"
