Can JIRA do automatic user assignments?

After an issue goes through a specific change/action, or perhaps state, is it possible to assign a specific group to then start work on the issue? Is there already a plugin that would do this?

Hello,

You can add the Update Issue Field post function to the required transition and select there the Assignee field and set a user, which is required.
