I have tried doing it with workflow propierties but it did not work. I would not mind using an add-on but none of them seem to do it.
What I want is not to be able to link an issue when it is closed. I would be fine if they appeared crossed when tried to link them but they appear normal so people do not know not to link them.

Have you tried to assign the permission of linking with workflow properties :
Example :
jira.permission.link.group.1=some-group-one
where some-group-one is a group that aready had linking permission but doesn't have any users in it or has only limited users like admins.

This link is useful in understanding various configuration for workflow properties. You can even use denied for completely disabling the link feature.

Yes I tried that, and it worked better with jira.permissions.link=denied. But that only worked for not being able to link the issue I was in, what I want is other issues not being able to link to it.
Plus, when I put that propertie I got this error, so that is why I am looking for alternatives

Linking happens on both sides so if the permission is set on the closed issue then the other issues also should not be able to make links to that issue.
However you will still get the option to link it and the error message you will get is not intuitive but that is the best possible solution at the moment.
There are add-ons that creates the custom field based on link types but they are available for server version only.

Hi @Prakhar Srivastav {Appfire} , I tried it and was still able to link, so it works different in cloud than in server.
I now the server add-ons, I am looking for alternatives for cloud,, as there are a lot of linking add-ons for cloud and maybe one of them offeres restrictions.
