Can I make the "Log Time" action also perform other functions?

I would like to see a story that has not been started moved to the In Progress status when someone logs time against it.

The flip side might also work: Require that the status be one of a list of statuses before work can be logged.

You need coding for both (modify the bundled plugin in the latter case). The first will be easier as you can do it in a JIRA listener!
