I have employee id numbers on a spread sheet and want to use a barcode scanner to verify they are on the list (grant access) and if so allow me to log that same id number then scan a code that identifies what location they are going onto a excel or teams file

Hi @kevin prophete

Just to clarify...

  • Employees have ID numbers on a spreadsheet
  • You want to import these users, with their ID number, into the user directory
  • And then grant access using a barcode scanner - i.e if the user is scanned, it grants them access to Atlassian products
  • The scan also confirms what access they should receive - is this product access? Or Group access?

---

If this is the need, it's not something I've seen done before using Atlassian's user directory.

I think it'd be easier to...

  • Install Atlassian Access
  • Link your Identity Provider to your Atlassian Org
  • Sync Groups from your IDP, setting up Product access based on them
  • Create the barcode-scanning model linked to your IDP - and place users in Groups based on the scan

---

If you need more advice on the Atlassian part, let us know :)
