Can I assign an issue to a Version WITHOUT re-opening it?

I'd like to not have to re-open a ticket in order to edit it to assign it to a version. The reason for not wanting to do so is that the assignee will get the email that it's been re-opened etc and that can cause unnecessary confustion. (As opposed to necessary confusion.)

Thanks

That is required most likely because Edit operation is disabled in the Closed state. You will have to remove the workflow property that prevents edit if you want to change version without reopening. But that will give edit option on all fields.
