Can I add an Automation Rule that executes a transition in another instance?

I have two JIRA (Server) instances, my goal is to execute a transition in issue X in JIRA A when an issue Y is closed in JIRA B.

Is this doable using Automation after defining an application link between the two?

I haven't tried this, and I wonder if you could call the REST API from an automation webrequest to make the transition in the other instance.
