Can Atlassian Tools be spun up from a VMWare snapshot?

Has anyone had experience with using snapshots as a way to back up Atlassian tools and spin them back up from a known good state?
I know there are built in backups in Jira and Confluence, but I am wondering if it is possible or recommended to us snapshots.

Hi Nick,

we have already successfully restored Jira with a vSphere snapshot, although VMware itself is rejecting it.
