I created a checklist template called "Team Requirements" one of the checklist items on this checklist is called "API Impact". It was decided that we need to change this item to "API Design". I have already updated the template so that all new tickets have this change.
How can I do a bulk update on all of the existing tickets (there are several hundred) to update the text on this one checklist item without affecting the current status of the checklist item?
Hello @Louis.Fauteux
Welcome to the community!
If you are using Checklist for Jira Free, Pro or Enterprise by Herocoders.
Then, you can edit the Checklist using an automation rule. The rule will use a Regular expression to replace the "API Impact" item with the "API Design" item, as below:
I'll be happy to create this automation rule for you. Please reach out to us here.
Thanks you, This is the tool we are using. I will investigate and reach out through the link you provided if we need help.

In case you are using our add-on, Smart Checklist for Jira, you can make your Template a Linked Template. Every change made to your Linked Template will automatically reflect on all of your checklists!
We have an article about it here!

Welcome to the community, @Louis.Fauteux 👋
Jira does not come with a built-in checklist feature. So I am going to answer your question with a question: Which Jira checklist add-on are you using?
Once you know that, head on over to the App Central group on the community and ask your question there specifying the name of the checklist app you are using. It's important that you specify which one, because the answer likely varies by add-on app. There are a lot of them.

Thanks Dave. Appreciate the response and the direction. A little more digging on my side, I realized that we are using checklist for Jira Enterprise.
