Bug: Linking a ticket to itself reports a misleading error

Roman Wolf

Bug Report

Environment:

  • JIRA Cloud

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create a ticket in a JIRA project
  2. Click on "Link issue"
  3. Enter the number of the just created ticket
  4. An error is displayed: "Can't find <ticket-number>. Try searching for another issue key, or in another site."

The error message is misleading and is not guiding the user to the real problem: you are linking a ticket to itself.

It is also questionable why the number of the current ticket can be entered into the link section. This problem could be prevented if entering the current ticket number is somehow impossible.

Hi @Roman Wolf,

I know you are on board on this already, but using this also as a tip to other Community users:

This is great feedback. However, for product bugs or feature requests it is best to open a ticket directly with Atlassian support.

 Hope this helps!
