Backup of all Jira Issues (XML export)

Maximilian Weissenbacher June 10, 2021

Hello,

i want to get all my Jira Issues on my local machine to have a backup of it (f. e. if i am not using jira in the future anymore). I already found the "export" option, but i don't know which is the best option for reading the issues later on without Jira.

I tried the XML-Export but i wasn't able to download it. Does someone know what steps are necessary to download the XML export? When i click on "Save page as" in the browser, the file gets automatically removed.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Kind regards!

Hi @Maximilian Weissenbacher

could you please explain on the steps actually taken to get the export file?
Was it from "System" or probably from "Issue Navigator" - this is not very clear to me.

When from System and the file being put to server's filesystem you would probably need to talk to your System Administrator to get it out from the directory where Jira resides.

Please compare with:

Apart from that I am not sure if the requirement "reading the issues later without Jira" can be met. The XML export is readable but I am not sure if much of value outside Jira.

Probably also CSV export is an option to look at (but it will depend on your use case and specific situation).

Daniel

Hello @Daniel Ebers

I solved my question for now with the Word-Export functionality. I looked at all the different options, but this one fits best for me.

Max

The backup file is placed on the server in the directory displayed on the export page. Grab the file from that directory.

When you perform the backup, the destination directory on the server is displayed right there on the page:
