I have a requirement to backup individual JIRA project. I am the project administrator for several projects within the JIRA corporate database and have the requirement to maintain my own backup copy of my projects including attachments. The only way that I have found is to have a backup of the entire JIRA database made. I do NOT have the rights nor the desire to create a backup of the entire database.
Sorry, but I'm pretty sure Jira does not currently support backing up individual projects.
I do know it's been a requested feature for many years. Please feel free to vote for it here:
Jira Server: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-34307
Jira Cloud: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-34307
Jira does support importing just a single project from a backup (it's not obvious, but it does, I've seen it).
Best practice at this time is for a top-level Jira Admin to generate a backup periodically for the entire instance. The concern about specific projects can be deferred until an import is performed. Some education of this limitation may be necessary within your organization.
Note that for Jira Cloud, the resulting backup file does NOT need to be downloaded and archived (although it is prudent to do so). It is saved for 7 days on the Jira cloud server, and can (theoretically) be retrieved from there (before being auto-purged after a week) if and when it is needed.
Hope that helps -- good luck to you!
P.S. I also HIGHLY recommend that your admin perform periodic "test imports" to confirm the validity of the backups and instance configuration. We learned the hard way that certain unusual Jira configurations can prevent a backup file from being imported. You don't actually have to perform a full import, but you do have to initiate an import. Jira validates the backup file before it asks you which specific projects you want to import. At that point you can abort the import, knowing the backup has passed validation. Fixing some of these "backup spoiling" issues can be quite non-trivial. Example:
I represent GitProtect - backup and recovery software. This solution allows you to pick up the data you want to back up. For example, if you want to back up only one project, you can simply do that. Just schedule a backup plan (including storage, data to back up, etc).
