Backlog nav menu item missing when viewing Kanban board

I'm trying to access the Kanban backlog in my board but it doesn't even show up to let me enable it. When I go to configure my board, in the Columns screen (Column Management), the Kanban Backlog column (usually furthest left) is absent. Does anyone know what is preventing the Kanban Backlog column from being displayed? Is it just that I'm on a version that doesn't support it? Using Jira Server 7.3.1 Thanks

I'm on cloud so can't speak to this definitively but see the following which would indicate upgrade to 7.4+
